Privacy policy
How Targeto collects, uses and protects information across the platform and the conversations it runs.
Targeto runs two way conversations on SMS, RCS and WhatsApp for businesses. That means we handle information about the businesses that use us and about the people they message. This policy sets out what we collect, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed, and every section is on this page.
Who this policy covers
This privacy policy explains how Targeto (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use our messaging and conversation automation platform on SMS, RCS and WhatsApp, our website and related services.
It applies to three groups of people:
- Account holders and their teams, the businesses that register contacts and run conversations on Targeto.
- Contacts, the people those businesses message, whose replies Targeto reads and answers on the business’s behalf.
- Visitors to this website, including anyone who uses the contact page or books a call with us.
When we process contact data on behalf of a business customer, that business decides why and how the data is used and we act on its instructions. Contacts with questions about a specific business’s messages should raise them with that business first.
Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: what you give us, what we receive when we run conversations for you and what is collected automatically.
- Account information: name, work email, company name, phone number and billing details. Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and are not stored by Targeto.
- Contact records: the names, phone numbers, consent records and related fields a business registers with us, on whichever channel they have agreed to.
- Conversation content: the messages sent and received on SMS, RCS and WhatsApp, the intent readings Targeto produces from each reply and any notes your team adds.
- Configuration: the voice, talking points, goals and rules a business sets for its conversations.
- Usage and device data: pages viewed, features used, IP address, browser and operating system, timestamps and performance logs.
- Support communications: what you send us through the contact page, by phone or by email.
If you book a call with us through our scheduling provider, that provider collects the details you enter under its own privacy terms.
How we use information
We use the information above to run the service and to keep it safe. In particular, we use it to:
- Register contacts, run conversations on SMS, RCS and WhatsApp and carry each thread to the result the business has set.
- Read and answer replies, including detecting opt outs, quiet hours and requests for a person.
- Maintain one record per contact across channels so nobody has to repeat themselves.
- Bill for contacts registered and send invoices, receipts and service notices.
- Answer support requests and tell you about changes to the service or to these policies.
- Monitor performance, prevent abuse and fraud, and meet our legal obligations.
We do not use the content of your conversations to train models that are made available to other customers.
Messaging channels and carriers
To deliver a message, its content and the recipient’s number pass through the network that carries that channel: mobile carriers for SMS, Google’s RCS infrastructure for RCS and Meta’s WhatsApp Business platform for WhatsApp.
Each of these networks handles message data under its own terms and policies, which we do not control. Targeto chooses the channel for each message based on what the device supports, what the contact has agreed to and where they last replied, and never sends on a channel a contact has not consented to.
Consent is recorded per channel and per contact. When a contact replies STOP or asks to stop in plain language, the number is suppressed immediately and nothing further is sent to it.
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website and platform use a small number of cookies and similar technologies.
- Essential cookies that keep you signed in and keep the service secure.
- Preference cookies that remember settings such as your last view.
- Analytics that tell us how the site and platform are used so we can improve them.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the platform from working.
Data retention
We keep account information for as long as the account is active. After an account closes, we keep its data for ninety days so it can be recovered, then delete it securely unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
Contact records and conversation content are kept according to the settings of the business that registered them and any regulatory requirements that apply to that business, such as keeping a record of consent. Shorter retention can be arranged for regulated teams.
Suppression records, the list of numbers that have opted out, are kept so that an opted out contact is not messaged again.
Security
We protect information with measures that are standard for a service of this kind, including:
- Encryption in transit for all data moving between you, Targeto and the messaging networks.
- Encryption at rest for stored data, on servers located in the United States.
- Role based access, so people inside Targeto see only what they need to run the service, with access logged.
- Regular review and testing of our systems and practices.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you believe your account has been accessed without permission, tell us right away through the contact page or by phone.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to any legal obligation to keep it.
- Receive your information in a portable, machine readable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact page or by phone. We will verify your identity and respond within thirty days. If you are a contact of one of our business customers, we may direct your request to that business, since it controls how your information is used.
Any contact can stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP on the channel the message arrived on.
Children
Targeto is a business service and is not directed at anyone under eighteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When a change is material we will tell account holders by email or with a notice inside the platform before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last revised.
Continued use of Targeto after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
